The German Messerschmitt BF109 was the Luftwaffe's standard single-seat fighter and was virtually unmatched in the early years of World War II. The power of the BF109 gave it an unmatched ability to out climb and out dive any other aircraft in the sky. The BF109G was powered by a 1800 horsepower Daimler-Benz engine which enabled it outrun its enemies. The drawback was fuel consumption which proved very limiting against the RAF in the Battle of Britain.
