When a pocketbook manufacturing company burned down in 1911, many residents of West Bend, Wisconsin were out of work. Young Bernhard C. Ziegler, a local entrepreneurial dynamo, set out to find a substitute industry for the townspeople. He recruited six other men who, along with himself, each put down $1,000 to incorporate the West Bend Aluminum Company on September 27, 1911.

I love this timer. I own several because of the many uses and the easy to use design. Since I bbq I need a timer for more than 1 hour. Since I travel I find I don't need a fancy alarm clock that needs to be figured out and then set. On my days to travel, I rely on it to be up on time and wouldn't trust an unfamiliar or AC powered clock. Also the sound loudness is just right for me. It's great for naps or other reminders to get on my way. I only use the countdown mode, but I'm sure others will use the count up mode as well since it goes to 99 hours. The quality and design are both great.
